My Book – Enchantment

Inception – 1997

This book started in 1997, many months before Harry Potter hit the shelves in June of that year. I mention this, because Harry Potter was not an inspiration for this book. My book had a life of its own.

The only way I can describe how this happened was suddenly, one day, I had the urge to write. I sat at a new to me computer, when floppy discs were a thing, and this entire world of characters, storyline and mystical lands came out of me. I had never planned or thought of or dreamed of these characters. They just appeared one day, in my mind and I let my fingers on the keyboard try and keep up to the ideas pouring forth from my brain. I was locked in hyper-focus – sitting and writing, day after day, ten hours at a time, as this entire fantasy world, characters and storyline unfolded before me.

At this time in my life, I was deep in therapy; it was very messy and confusing. Writing this book seemed to be a cathartic way of finding my voice…

I stopped writing the book in June, after I read J. K. Rowlings, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone because I didn’t want that story to influence what I had started with my own fantastical creation. I needed to stay true to my own voice.

Reborn – 23 Years Later

23 years later, I am sitting down to revisit and finish my story. I am calling my story, Enchantment. I will be publishing it a chapter at a time on a dropdown menu from this page. My end goal is to someday have this published as a real book. Maybe a publisher will stumble across this and offer me a deal! Who knows!

It is my husband Michael, for whom I am forever grateful, who has given me the option to revisit and edit each chapter, and be able to publish my story here on my blog. The only version of this story I had was a PDF file, somehow recovered from a memory stick. I almost lost this story…

Michael, unknowing to me, retyped the entire story – over 100,000 words of it – on a Word document. He presented it to me, with a promise to finish it…

This is keeping my promise to him…
