55 Rules For Love – Rule #43 – Don’t Just Speak About It, Show Love

What Does Love Look Like?

It’s hard to put something into action if you’re not quite sure what it is.

Love, typically, is a deep show of affection.

How does one show their affection?

There are many ways to express and show our love, and these love actions grow out of a few common values such as kindness, respect, trust, communication, transparency, and acceptance.

And a whole lot of mutual weirdness!

Gary Chapman’s – 5 Love Languages – Ways to Show Love

I’ve always struggled identifying my love language, as each one seems to be important to me.

As I get a little older and know myself better. I have clearer lenses to follow the author’s recommendations of observing how I give love to understand how I want to be loved, then identify what is it I complain about most that my husband isn’t doing for me, so that I feel loved by him.

I’m still a mixture of each love language – and they change all the time – depending on what is happening in my life. Sometimes I need to feel like I am a priority, other days I need to feel partnered with after a busy day at work. Sometimes I crave physical intimacy, other times I need empathy and encouragement or small gestures to show he’s noticed.

I’m laughing at myself right now, as I’ve just proven that saying how men never know what women want!

Maybe I’ve also proven that love is not a textbook thing – it takes great work to truly, deeply know your spouse and be mindful enough to know how to put love into action, in any given moment.

Steven Covey’s – Love is a Verb – Showing Love

I’ve always connected to this.

How love the feeling happens after love the action.

Saying love without the action of love is just empty words and not the same as words of affirmation.

Words of affirmation is active listening in action and genuine encouragement.

Love is…Us

Our journey hasn’t been easy. It’s taken a lot of work as we walk this path of mutual weirdness together!
