My first thought is what is the difference between a judgment and an opinion.
An opinion is what I think any given thing “should be”, not necessarily based on facts or knowledge.
A judgement is the result of the facts of what I’m thinking about and come to a sensible conclusion.
But, that doesn’t really define judgement to me.
Judging someone has a negative tone to it.
Judging, to me, is the insensitive, harsh and partially informed opinion I make on another.
Journey From the Mind to the Heart
I’ve heard it said in 12-Step rooms that the longest journey to take is from the mind to the heart. I would have to agree, and apply this to the transition from wearing the lenses of judging to the lenses of compassion.
Judging is the mind.
Compassion is the heart.
In any relationship – not judging the other person is very difficult, because we’re around them so much. But, that is part of the journey of love – the steps from the mind to the heart – to stop ourselves looking with harsh, impatient eyes at our beloved, and look with kind, compassionate eyes fueled from our heart.
This transition takes awareness. A knowing. A conscious effort.
