55 Rules For Love – Rule #39 – Discover Each Other

To Discover

To discover, basically means to find something unexpected about my husband, Michael, that I didn’t see before.

I Do This Best When

I’m in the present moment, not trying to change anything about it. I’m not wearing lenses of preference, judgement, bias, or opinion. This discovery could be during a stressful time, a relaxed time and everything in-between.

Discover Each Other

In my mind’s eye I imagine an example of Michael working on a project. I observe this, and silently discover how he deals with frustration if something doesn’t go right or those moments while he works, feeling happy as everything comes together in a smooth flow.

I’m watching and discovering small aspects of his humanness in action, that perhaps I hadn’t seen or noticed before.

Discovering each other is being attentive to each other. Noticing. Observing the small nuances of the very fabric of the other’s existence.

Discovering Shifts

When Michael and I first met, as most people do, we put our best selves forward – discovering each other to see if we’re a fit. Once we decide we’re gonna give it a go, our truer selves start to be revealed as we discover the darker aspects of our personalities. These traits can present a challenge to the relationship, that either make it or break it.

If the relationship makes it, the discovery of each other’s subtle nuances starts to blossom; continuing over a lifetime.

I find this very exciting! To truly witness and discover all that is of my beloved, during the ebb and flow of our lifetime together. To notice and discover his subtle changes, his growth, with some steps backwards and forward again.

As Rumi says, “…to fly towards a secret sky, to cause a hundred veils to fall each moment.”

As the veils fall away, we discover each other…
