5 Principles of Reiki
Just for today, I will not worry
Just for today, I will not be angry
Just for today, I will do my work honestly
Just for today, I will be kind to all living things
Just for today, I will be grateful for my many blessings
Choose Your Hard
There is so much wisdom in choosing your hard, because no matter what – life is hard, and it is up to me to choose the hard I must go through to be either be happy in the moment or authentically happy in the long run.
What I mean by this is that typically, choices that make me feel better in the moment like emotionally eating or drinking alcohol to numb pain- are just that – in the moment. But those moments catch up with me and therein lies the hard because of weight gain and feeling shame from over eating and drinking.
I know this, because in August, 2019 I weighed almost 170lbs. Typically, my weight was around 140lbs, and I was shocked at myself. December, 2019 I started running. February, 2020 I stopped drinking alcohol. August, 2020 I changed my diet to reduce processed foods and refined sugars.
Today, my weight is 141lbs.
Running
My running started at 7 minutes on the elliptical, every morning before work. 7 minutes grew to 10 minutes, grew to 15, etc. Then my elliptical broke, so in the middle of winter, I started running outside. I then decided to start training for a half-marathon. I’m still working towards this goal!
COVID and life’s unexpected twists and turns postponed my half-marathon goal. However, I’m back on track now, to start mentally and physically prepare for running a half marathon in the fall of this year.
Alcohol Free Life
I stopped drinking, February17th, 2020 and never looked back. It hasn’t always been easy, but going through the hard to remain alcohol free is so worth it!

Changing my diet
I made the decision to, as much as possible, eliminate refined sugars from my diet and stop eating processed foods like chips, crackers, and pastries on a regular basis. I made this choice when running wasn’t enough to lower my weight.
This wasn’t easy, as it required a lot of planning, but the rewards are great! My weight started to drop and I feel so much better both physically and emotionally!
Currently, my husband and I are eliminating meat from our diet. We eat plant based proteins, eggs and fish. This is a challenge, for sure!
I do treat myself occasionally to pizza or a cheeseburger, but these treats are made with awareness and planning. These treats are the exception, not the rule.
Just For Today
Just for today, I will be honest with myself and do the hard work, make the hard choices that steer me towards becoming the best version of myself I can be!
