This aphorism has been a common theme throughout this blog series. Our unique abilities, that are attractive to our partner, can be very different from the unique abilities our beloved brings to the table.
In my marriage, my husband is impulsive, juggles many projects, sees life outside the box, is incredibly creative and highly intelligent. I plan my day, am highly organized, tackle one project at a time, am creative and emotionally expressive.
Michael’s ability to see life outside the box – see possibilities – inspires me to think that the sky is the limit to what we can accomplish in our lifetime.
My ability to plan and organize keeps our feet on the ground as we dream of what we can accomplish in our lifetime.
Comparing our differences, in my humble opinion, ultimately says my way is the right way, your way is wrong. My unique abilities are better, better than your unique abilities.
Accepting my husband’s unique abilities are akin to giving him a warm embrace, an embrace that says I love you and want you to thrive as you are.
When each of us can personally thrive in our marriage, feeling completely accepted, the sky is not the limit – there is a whole Universe out there!
