5 Principles of Reiki
Just for today, I will not worry
Just for today, I will not be angry
Just for today, I will do my work honestly
Just for today, I will be kind to all living things
Just for today, I will be grateful for my many blessings
Spirit of the Eagle
While kayaking at Quadra Island, an island within the Discovery Islands archipelago, British Columbia, I took the most extraordinary picture as an eagle flew above me. It looks like the spirit of the eagle!
Is it an optical effect from my iPhone? Or did I capture the Great Spirit of the Eagle?
Kinship to Eagles
Whatever the explanation is for this picture – as a wild woman walking a spiritual path – I interpret this picture as a message, confirming my connection to nature, animals and especially eagles. I recently had a tattoo of a Phoenix Rising from a Restorative Circle – with a Native eagle as part of the design. Click here read about the creation of the tattoo.
Power animals and personal totems are an integral part of Native spirituality. If you’re like me, drawn to this system of belief, then you probably have a favorite animal or animals you feel spiritually connected to. I’m from Nova Scotia, however at this time I’m living on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, in the town of Campbell River. There are numerous First Nations communities here, with major shopping areas on First Nation’s land. Eagles, whales, bears and wolves are everywhere – either on building architecture, totems or wood carving statues located throughout the town. I am by no means an expert on Native spirituality, I have an inherent draw towards it. I am hoping to attend a sweat lodge here, but at this time because of COVID-19, they are closed.

Kindness to Animals
Nature is plentiful on Vancouver Island. There seems to be a real kinship towards nature and animals here, inspiring a feeling of sacredness within me. We are visitors to their homes, and we need to respect this by keeping the forests and waters safe – honoring that they too need a safe place to live, free of the threat of humans.
Just for today, I will be kind to animals and respect their environment. As I go about my day, I will make a conscious effort not to increase my trace of human existence on their homes…
