Half Marathon Training – Week 9 – Plantar Fasciitis Continues to Halt Running, Adapting Exercise Habits During These COVID-19 Days With Indoor, Low Impact, High Cardio Exercise & We Bought a Bike!

29 Weeks to Half Marathon

My goal is to run the Valley Harvest Half Marathon, on Sunday, October 11th in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. 21.1km.

Sunday – Tuesday

Not much going on these days, as I sunk into a bit of a funk. I did get out for a few walks and worked on the front yard.

Wednesday – Saturday

I begrudgingly started a low impact, high cardio aerobic workout on Youtube with Body Project.

I really struggled with motivation to commit to this video on a daily basis. But, the more I work at it, the easier it gets. The video is 44 minutes long. I started at 19 minutes, then increased my workout time each day. My goal is to gradually work towards completing the 44 minute video – and come to enjoy doing it. As I increase my times each day, I focus on engaging the targeted muscles in a controlled, effective way. By the time I reach 44 minutes, I should be achieving a solid workout!

ps….. the standing abdominal sets in the video are BRUTAL!!!!

We Bought a New To Us 2016 Trek Emonda

My March Break visit from Nova Scotia to see my husband in British Columbia, who is here to ready our house to put on the market, has been extended because of COVID – 19. We bought this bike to share and allow me an outdoor exercise that won’t aggravate the plantar fasciitis in my left foot.

Along with the outdoor exercise gained while biking, I also get to experience the beauty of the coastal city of Campbell River on Vancouver Island.

Musings…

With these unprecedented days of the COVID – 19 pandemic, along with not being able to run because of the plantar fasciitis in my left foot – I feel like I’ve gotten off track with training for my half marathon. What I mean by this, is because I am unable to run, my focus to achieve better fitness to carry me though running 21.1km has changed. I’m now finding alternative ways to maintain my fitness as my foot heals from plantar fasciitis. Once I find my groove of new ways to exercise, and establish my fitness routine, then my mind can focus on keeping fit for when my foot heals and I start running again.

Last Week’s Goals

  • To adapt during these COVID – 19 days
  • To follow an at home, free, online, low impact, high cardio aerobic exercise video ✓
  • Daily yoga – nope!

Next Week’s Goal

  • Continue daily practice of following the low impact, high cardio aerobic workout on Youtube with Body Project
  • Bike an hour each day – and explore Campbell River!
  • Attempt yoga… again!! ☺️🧘🏼‍♀️
  • Practice gratitude each day for my health and the continuing health of my family and friends. ❤️ 🙏🏻

    1. Michael has joined me in the workout! Makes it more fun as we laugh and curse our way through the stupid video!! 🤣
Campbell River is BEAUTIFUL!! We drove to Victoria last week on family business. We didn’t have time to visit downtown, and with the COVID-19 pandemic – going downtown in a large city is something we’re avoiding. It is too bad, because Michael says downtown Victoria is beautiful!

You too Margie, be well and stay safe!! ❤️❤️❤️

Lol on you and Michael cursing and laughing as you do the workout together. As long as you can laugh, that is a good thing.
