My New Snowboard – 2018 Head Woman’s Shine Snowboard

Camba & Rocker

My new board is a Head Hybrid Camba Series. What this means, as my instructor Issac told me this session – is that my board is a cross between a camba and a rocker. I am a sea kayaker. I know what a rocker is in a kayak – more rocker – more spin. The same with snowboards. More rocker, more spin. The term Camba is new to me.

Camba is the reverse of rocker, adding stability – but has to do with edging. That is all I’m going to say about these terms at this time, as I’m still learning.

2019/2020 Citizen Bindings

My bindings are awesome…once they were adjusted! Who knew? I certainly didn’t! My brand new bindings were attached to my brand new snowboard and I thought I was ready to go! During my very first run on my snowboard, a practice run without an instructor, I couldn’t understand why I was having such an issue with the ankle straps of my quality bindings!!

As Issac introduced to me…bindings need many adjustments! Included in this mixture are my new snowboarding boots that are being broken in! Who knew? Not me! I’m realizing that I don’t know what I don’t know!!!

One third of my session with Issac was explaining my board and adjusting my bindings. Am I a complete idiot who didn’t understand my brand new snowboard? Yes and No and Trusting. I bought my new board on advice from a well-seasoned snowboarding instructor and snowboarding staff at Martock who assessed my skill.

The highbacks on my bindings had to be adjusted as did the ankle straps. Once those adjustments were made, life on my new board became SO much easier!!! Do I understand the meaning of the adjustments? Not yet!! 😉

Beautiful Board

My instructor Issac is a carpenter by trade and immediately pointed out how the design of my board shows the wood of the actual board itself. It was then and there that I started to love my board and see her beauty!!

Practice Before Instruction

Aside from struggling with my pre-adjusted bindings, I had two successful heel-edge pendulum runs down the Bunny Hill!! I was so pleased with myself and SO excited with my new board! Pendulum is also known as zig-zag down the hill.

Session With Issac

Issac and I had four runs. I could have had more, but my legs were a bit worn from my early morning 6km run. I was successful with heel edge pendulum and straight down – on toe edge – understanding the feel, understanding where to adjust!!! Thank you Issac for an informative and successful session! Issac was a wonderful instructor; he is calm, humble, gentle, personable and knows his stuff!!

Woohoo!!!!

S, 🙂
