Just For Today – I Will Be Grateful For My Many Blessings

This morning I am without water. This is a result of yesterday’s snowstorm causing a power outage. The power outage started mid-afternoon, lasting late into the evening. I was up at 3:00am today to finish cooking what I started when the power went out.

I’ve no water because I’m on a well, with a water pump system located in a crawl space under this cabin. I have to wait for someone to come and reset it. But, because of the snow storm, life up here on this low mountain is slow going.

Exhale. Thing is, I have to be to work. But no water means no brushing of teeth, no shower, no washing my face. I’m not going to work like that. My routine is completely out of wack and I’m all out of sorts because of it.

I’m sitting here, trying to ground myself. But, I’ve a pile of dirty dishes in the sink, can’t flush the toilet, can’t clean myself!! I need order around me, so that I can relax and focus on the task at hand. If I’m in disorder, I struggle to be grounded. Especially in my home. My home is the one place where I can have order, a place for everything – everything in its place. Then I have the space within to have space for living.

I don’t do well when my routine is disrupted.

I don’t do well when there isn’t order and calmness either within or around me.

I HAVE WATER!! Just like that, everything has fallen back into place!!! I can create order to have peace within, I can start my day over with my usual routine!! I can reset, reboot, start again!

Never underestimate the gift of a toilet that flushes…

Just for today, I am grateful for electricity, running water, heat, flushing the toilet, hot water, cold water, a fridge that keeps my food cold, a stove that cooks my food, hot water to wash my dishes, water for my coffee maker, electricity for the coffee maker, coffee, cold milk from the fridge to add to my coffee, electricity to power the internet and my computer so I can write this blog.

Most notably, I am grateful for the man who, in this dark, damp, cold and windy early morning hour, crawled under this cabin to reset the water pump to give me water.

S, ❤️

2019 - I have water, coffee and my dishes are done!!

I feel so sorry for you. I agree we have much to be grateful for when all is working! Especially for the man who reset the water pump to give you water. Think you may start a “new storm list” 🌨today as it is no fun when we loose power. Have been there and it is no fun! I hope your day just keeps getting better and you feel better. 👵🏻♥️🤗

Glad it worked out ok – indeed these sorts of events give us pause for thought…

    1. Not so fun in the moment, for sure. It is that moment when the power comes back on, the water pump is reset and I have can flush the toilet that I realize how dependent I am on these services and how utterly out of sorts I am without them.
