Did you ever think about how you make yourself feel? I’m thinking about that right now. How I make myself feel in any given moment depends on the self-talk I am telling myself. What is my mindset? Is it a fixed mindset or a growth mindset?
Mindset (I think) is the newest phrase for self-talk. It is even being taught in some schools, students are being taught how to change their mindset from fixed to growth.
Author Louise Hay believes you can heal your life, even physical illness, by telling yourself positive affirmations and learning to love yourself.
Self-love is a felt experience. I’m getting glimpses of it as I grow older and mature, and have the emotional support of my husband, family and friends. Never underestimate the power of emotional support from others. This support helps foster our growth mindset. We’re tribal beings – not meant to be alone.
Self-love, for me, are those moments when I make choices to better my life – to make myself feel good – either by action (cooking healthy food) or thought (growth mindset – I can handle this uncomfortable feeling, it will pass). My self-love motivation isn’t to please another or feel forced by society to look thin, or any other external factor. In authentic self-love moments I truly like being in my own skin, and want to feel better about myself; to feel good and look good. There is a warmth in this felt experience. An inner calm. I am at peace with myself.
Just for today, I will not worry because I know self-love is a journey of just-for-me right choices… that nurtures my soul.
