Amman, Jordan – Walk About & “The Scam!”

Our final afternoon in Jordan was a walk around the area of our hotel, Gerasa Hotel.

A Jerusalem Hotel!IMG_5634

A place where smokers can buy their cancer!

Fun people!IMG_5624IMG_5625The busy, main street had a pedestrian bridge!IMG_5609

And underground pedestrian walkways, lined with little shops (just like Tbilisi and Baku)!

We stopped at a little shopping mall for something to eat! This food court meal cost 16 JOD – that’s about 30 CAD!

On our walk back to the hotel, we decided to walk along this centre strip of the main street that looked to be abandoned during its construction.

We had about an hour before our driver Walid picked us up to take us to the airport. I was hoping to find a place to clean up a bit – meaning threading. Michael took me to this barber shop where he had his hair cut the evening before.

Here, this young hairstylist threaded my eyebrows.  Not the best job – but at least I didn’t have a unibrow anymore! 😉 IMG_5653

Next thing I knew, he led me upstairs and started giving me a facial. My red flag siren started screaming, warning me something was afoot that would not end well.  But I was exhausted – and just went with the flow – all the while knowing the red flag siren was wondering what this young man thought he was going to charge me for this?

As my mask dried, he put Michael in the chair and “styled” his hair!

Now, it was time to go. This young man tried to keep us upstairs (away from his boss) and wanted 60 JOD for this – about 110 CAD! We laughed in his face, refusing to pay. We gave him 20 JOD – about 37 CAD – that was still too much money because he was pushy, but we just wanted out and away from this scammer!

This unpleasant experience wasn’t what we had hoped to happen during our final moments in Jordan. But, hey – that’s travel!

S, 🙂

  1. Love the shot of women taken from bridge!

    1. Thank you!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 That was my husband’s idea! They were all gathered together, looking at one of the girl’s cell phone and laughing. I wasn’t able to get my camera out in time to capture that! The picture was when they started walking when they were done looking at whatever was on the cell phone!
