Arthunkal, Kerala, India – Fishermen Repairing the Nets

On our last full day in India, Michael and I drove north along the ocean on Route 66! Along the way were many spots with fishermen sitting on red nets, busy with sewing repair.

Michael and I stopped so I could get pictures of these men among the vibrant red nets!

The fisherman welcomed us!fullsizeoutput_9e89fullsizeoutput_9e8afullsizeoutput_9e90

Michael joined them! fullsizeoutput_9e94

This old fisherman didn’t know WHAT to make of Michael!! He’s looking at another, as if to say, “What the..?”fullsizeoutput_9e97

Here is what the sewing actually looks like:IMG_3967

They hold one part of the net with their toes, and pull on the other with their hand as they sew, repair the nets.fullsizeoutput_9e9dfullsizeoutput_9eb5fullsizeoutput_9ea3IMG_3975

This man arrived and was shocked to see us! He was like “HUH??” when he saw Michael and everyone started to laugh!fullsizeoutput_9ea7

No one spoke English, except one word really.  Someone walked to this man, slapped him on the shoulder calling him “Captain.”fullsizeoutput_9ea9fullsizeoutput_9eacfullsizeoutput_9e98fullsizeoutput_9e9afullsizeoutput_9e9ffullsizeoutput_9ea4fullsizeoutput_9eb3

My turn with the Captain!  He was SO shy!!!fullsizeoutput_9eaeIMG_3982

This moment is Incredible India!!!

We will call this one ” Michael going native” ❤️ It is amazing how one does not need to speak the language to get along. A smile, just joining in and laughter. Wonderful 😍
