Mararikkulam North, Mararikulam, Arthunkal & Alappuzha, Kerala, India – Catholic Churches & Hindu Temples

This southwestern area of Kerala has many Catholic churches and Hindu temples. We think there is an ashram on the way to Alappuzha, but none in this immediate area.

India is the birthplace of yoga – and there is absolutely nothing to be seen here related to the practice of yoga!  It has been a curious observation. I expected yoga to be a part of the culture.

Nope.

I’m taking a Yoga for Stress Management Teacher Training course here, and my 70 something year old yogi tells me about 1% of the population in India practices yoga!  I think he winked after he said that, but I get his point.  Religion is what you see in India – not yoga and spirituality.

Here are pictures of some of the churches and temples we’ve seen along the way!
