My Response to the Questions (Oh Boy!!!!  LoL!!)

Why did you start blogging in the first place?

I started blogging as a way to share with family and friends back in Canada what living in the Middle East is like, as well as share our varied travel adventures with them.  Another reason, an important one, is that blogging is a unique way of capturing our life in a chronological way, to record where my husband and I have been physically as well as myself emotionally, through this journey of life.  So, say 10 or 20 years down the road we can look back, review our life and relive many of the magical moments we’ve shared together.  <3

What is your favourite book?

I have many.  One of the first books that truly moved me, as it came into my life many years ago at a time I needed it most was Way of the Peaceful Warrior, by Dan Millman.  Another favorite of mine is A Man Called Ove, by Fredrik Backman.  I laughed out loud.  I cried in public places while reading it.  Funny story – I was flying with Lufthansa on a flight back to Doha from Canada. During the expected layover in Frankfurt, next stop Kuwait City then Doha, I sat in the middle of a scattering of rather large, very masculine/tough American men returning to work in Kuwait.  I was reading this book. As mentioned, I laughed out loud. The tough men smiled. Then I wept with tears of joy.  I couldn’t stop the tears because the book is just so heartwarming, so amazing.  These men looked sideways at each other, not knowing what to do. Eventually, one man awkwardly leaned in asking me if I was okay.  Through my tears, I stuttered and choked with laughter to tell him, ‘It’s the book!!!”  They exhaled, sitting back to relax once more.

What do you dislike the most?

Oh boy…..tough one.  I could say fried liver and onions!  Yuck.  But on a deeper level I dislike negative people.  Those who see the glass half-empty.  Those who attempt to suck the life out of any person with enthusiasm and a positive outlook.  Those whose conversations are always a complaint about something.  Those who radiate negativity, bitterness. Those who do not empower themselves for positive change because they choose to stay in the victim role.

What is your favourite food at the mall?

Qatar is the land of shopping malls!  Eating at a mall is beyond a food court! It’s an event! Casual to fine dining is available!  Right now my favorite food at a mall is prawn linguini in a rose sauce at Jamie’s Italian Doha in Festival City Mall.

What is your favourite pastime?

In Canada, sea kayaking was my thing.  In Qatar, kayaking isn’t the same because the inland ocean water of the Persian Gulf is so salty due to desalination plants that also deter much of the marine life to swim close to shore.  As well, the water gets rather toasty warm in the summer.  So much so, I actually feel like a potato swimming around in a stew!  I’ve been in Qatar 3 years and I’m still trying to find my thing.  I’ve tried kite surfing.  That smashed me around and scared me.  I enjoy horseback riding here and am in the process of wanting to find a small farm to ride at rather than a large stable.  And of course, traveling!!!! I can’t wait for the next country to visit, next local food to eat, next beach to chill at, next ocean or sea to snorkel in…..

All this said…..my favorite pastime truly is hanging with my husband!  Be it in the living room or riding an elephant together in Thailand! He is my best friend!!!!  <3 <3 <3
