Taking the Metro

We took the Metro to find a specific jewellery shop a coworker had asked me to visit to pick up a piece for her and of course, explore the area.

Our traveling by Metro took us to the 3rd, 4th and 11th arrondissements that were full of wonderful surprises.

Place des Vosges

The jewellery shop we were looking for brought us to Place des Vosges.

Place des Vosges straddles the dividing-line between the 3rd and 4th arrondissements of Paris.

Place des Vosges or originally Place Royale, is the oldest planned square in Paris.

During the 17th and 18th centuries, It was a fashionable and expensive square to live in, and one of the main reasons for the chic nature of Le Marais among the Parisian nobility.

Add to this, we also discovered we were in The Marais.

The Marais is an authentic Paris neighbourhood that is spread across the 3rd and 4th Arrondissement (like Place des Vosges) and where many French traditions remain intact.

Du Pied De Fouet Brasserie

We enjoyed lunch at Du Pied De Fouet Brasserie.

The Food

The cheeseburger was the most delicious burger I have ever enjoyed It had two types of cheese, one a creamy blue cheese that topped this tasty burger. Beneath the burger patty is ham and tomatoes.

Michael’s enjoyed the roasted chicken.

I savored a cafe Vienna.

For dessert I had the “soft chocolate cake” that was between a mousse and fudge with a cool crème anglaise beneath it.

Michael’s enjoyed the coupe de framboise de chantilly.

July Column

On our return to our Airbnb in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, wee entered the Metro at the Bastille stop in the 11th Arrondissement.

The Place de la Bastille is a square in Paris, where the Bastille Prison stood until the “Storming of the Bastille.”

In the centre of this square is the famous July Column.

The July Column is a monumental column commemorating the Revolution of 1830.
