It Is Happening
As our flight approached its destination of Cairo, Egypt I felt a calm come over me.
This was it.
My childhood dream of seeing the ancient pyramids of Egypt was going to happen.
It was intense.
Tough looking airport staff smoked at their passport booths while wearing berets. One officer wanted to keep Michael’s passport. I freaked and argued with him through his cigarette smoke and finally he gave it back to me. It was, for just a moment, a scary moment.
I felt like I was in a Quentin Tarantino movie. I wanted to take a picture of the a@#hole, but was afraid I’d be arrested.
As we slowly made our way past customs, we were swarmed on the other side with quick talking scammers who recognised an eager, naive, excited tourist like myself. These scammers didn’t get very far with us, thanks to Michael.
I, on the other hand was in la-la land. My childhood dreams of seeing National Geographic’s Egypt was coming to life right before my eyes.
The Moment I Saw A Pyramid
As we drove through Cairo, I cried with heavy emotion the moment I saw a pyramid.
I’m in Giza, Egypt…RIGHT NOW…..on December 20th, 2015!!! Christmas music is playing in the hotel lobby (free WIFI!!) and my heart is SOARING!!!!! I’M IN EGYPT!!!!!
Below are more pictures of our arrival at the Cairo Airport and the sights during our interesting and hour long taxi drive from Cairo Airport to our hotel in Giza.
