Muttrah Corniche
The cab driver dropped us off at a parking lot along al Bahri Road.
There, we started the day at the far, eastern end of the Muttrah Corniche.
As we walked under a blazing midmorning sun, a sight before us hooked our adventurous attention.
There, like a proud tiger, this grand fort jutted out from the rocky slope that begged our visit.
The fort is thought to have been built originally in 1507 AD, only to be modified and upgraded with towers and stronger walls by the Portuguese during their occupation of Oman in the 1560s.
We found stone steps that took us a third of the way up. I stopped there, as I was wearing sandals and I have a fear of heights.
Michael, an experienced climber ascended onward, reaching the highest point alongside the solitary tower.
